Next-Gen Energy Technology is future-proofing Australia’s battery manufacturing value chain, creating 138 new jobs.
Adelaide, South Australia – Next-Gen Energy Technology is proud to announce they are establishing Australia’s first ternary cathode manufacturing facility at the former Holden Plant, now known as Lionsgate Business Park, in Adelaide.
This landmark project marks a major step forward in building Australia’s sovereign battery manufacturing capabilities, with a focus on patented Lithium Nickel Cobalt Aluminium Oxide (Li-NCA) active materials processing using Australian minerals and refining.
The initiative is supported by strategic Memoranda of Understanding (MOUs) with the University of Adelaide and the University of South Australia, enabling world-class research, independent materials characterisation and validation, and the development of a highly skilled local workforce.
In parallel, Next-Gen has secured MOUs and collaboration agreements with Siemens, M2i Global, and Pelligra Property Group, integrating advanced digitalisation and automation technologies to scale production efficiently and sustainably in world class facilities.
In November 2024 Next-Gen Energy Technology signed an offtake agreement with U.S. based M2i Global Inc. to supply Li-NCA cathode materials for M2i's Critical Minerals Reserve headquartered in Nevada.
The project will create 138 new jobs in Adelaide and foster innovation in clean energy technologies, while aligning with all 5 priorities of the Australian Government’s National Battery Strategy and is well aligned with the recent critical minerals agreement signed between Australia and the U.S.
With access to abundant critical minerals and a strong academic and industrial ecosystem, South Australia is emerging as a strategic hub for battery materials manufacturing. This development not only reduces reliance on overseas processing but also positions Australia as a global leader in the clean energy transition.
Next-Gen Energy Technology is taking expressions of interest from potential investors in this U.S $100M project as they prepare to scale.
QUOTES
“Any move to Advanced Manufacturing is very welcomed and this particular project ticks so many boxes whether that be environmental or economic, it’s just a really good project.”
Hon Rob Kerin, Former Premier of South Australia and current Chair for Regional Development Australia SA.
“Our experience has been outstanding. Next-Gen is building partnerships with key Global players to create a complex and complete value chain from mining and refining to commercialisation of new battery technologies.”

QUOTES from Andrew Cooper CEO Next-Gen Energy Technology
“We are delighted with the level of Ministerial engagement from the South Australian Government and look forward to completing this Nation Building project with support of all three levels of Government.”
Andrew Cooper, CEO, Next-Gen Energy Technology
“We are fully committed to a triple helix approach to research and development that secures our future in energy storage technology. Government funding accelerates, Research Institutes provide credible validation of our materials, and world class Industry support from companies like Siemens, help us to commercialise and improve efficiencies.”
Andrew Cooper, CEO, Next-Gen Energy Technology
“Our advanced cathode materials are the highest quality in the world allowing cell manufacturers to create “super-batteries” that can last up to 30 years, are half the physical size and weight, can provide double the distance on EVs and have no thermal runaway concerns therefore reducing the risk of fire.”
Andrew Cooper, CEO, Next-Gen Energy Technology
“We own the IP for the formulation and manufacturing process that has eliminated traditional toxic chemical waste streams and by onshoring in Australia, we stop loading our minerals on ships for offshore processing resulting in huge reductions in scope 3 emissions.”
Andrew Cooper, CEO, Next-Gen Energy Technology
